What can I store in my storage unit?

“Is it warm at your facility? We'd like to store a large quantity of onions.”

Our friendly customers ask us questions like this all the time. That inspired us to write a blog post about it :-)

Although our storage units are cool enough for storing food, doing so in self storage is strictly forbidden and prohibited by contract.

There are several reasons for this. Pests and rodents have extremely keen noses and are irresistibly drawn to food, no matter how well packaged it is. Fortunately, we have no pest issues in our self storage facilities. To keep it that way, we carry out regular pest control measures – just to be on the safe side.

What you are not allowed to store

• Foodstuff and perishable goods
• Living creatures of any kind, including live plants
• Leaking liquids
• Combustible or flammable substances/liquids such as gas, paints, petrol, oil, oily rags, solvents, etc.
• Pressurised gases
• Illegal and prohibited goods (unless stored according to law)
• Radioactive materials / biological weapons
• Toxic waste, asbestos or other potentially hazardous materials
• Anything emitting smoke or odours
• Materials that may disturb third parties through emissions

It makes sense that hazardous materials cannot be stored. When it comes to food – besides the reasons mentioned above – smells and flavours can attract local wildlife. Our units are rodent-free and hygienic. The boxes in our self storage feature solid metal walls up to a height of 2,5m, making it impossible for rodents to get through.

On the other hand, our self storage units are ideal for storing the following:
